I served in the Navy.

Valentin Lopez Orozco was born to Jesus and Sara Orozco in Phelan in Bastrop
County on February 14, 1929. Valentin was called from this life on October 9, 2018
at the age of 89 years.

He graduated from high school in Bastrop and later received an Associate of Arts
degree from San Diego City College while serving in the military. He served in the
US Navy from April 1948 to April of 1952 on board the USS McCord (DD 534) as a
Radio Operator, and also served on the islands of Saipan and Guam during the
Korean War.

He was married to Alice Gutierrez Orozco for over 65 years, beginning June 7, 1953.
They met as elementary students over 80 years ago at Mina Ward. They had three
children all born in San Diego County in California, Helen Marie and Randy Russell,
Daniel Louis and Cathie Orozco, and Rebecca Lynn and Ted Schaefer. Their seven
grandchildren are Lindy Russell Stuckey, Shelly Russell, Ryan Russell, Alison Orozco
Thompson, Hannah Orozco Grassie, Kylie Schaefer, and Cami Schaefer. He was
blessed with eight great-grandchildren.

He worked in California for two manufacturing companies, Ryan Aeronautical and
Rohr Industries, and then for Life & Casualty Insurance of Tennessee out of their
Austin office for nearly 30 years. After retirement he substitute taught in the Bastrop
schools for 19 years.

Throughout his life he and Alice were active in church activities, he served on the
Bastrop Housing Authority, he played fast-pitch softball for many years, and enjoyed
golf, and napping on the couch!

He is survived by four sisters, Olivia Runkle, Amelia Allen, Lucy Faz, and Sarah Orozco.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bernardino.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00pm Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Marrs-Jones-Newby

God has blessed my family in many ways and one of those great blessings has been brother Orozco. I was able to attend the funeral today. Unfortunately I am not able to attend service on Sunday.
